M.M.E. (Maria) Bowmer
Maria Bowmer (1977) is Irish and is a native English speaker. She graduated from the University of Leiden in 1999. Maria was admitted to the bar in The Hague in 2000. After her apprenticeship, she worked with a lawfirm in Rotterdam for nine years. Maria joined our office in 2012. She became a partner at Bowmer & Nuiten in February 2019 and heads our Rotterdam office.
Maria is regularly appointed as a trustee (“curator”) in bankruptcy cases. She is a member of INSOLAD, the Dutch association of Insolvency specialists. Maria blogs (in Dutch) about her experiences as a trustee in her blog 'Curator op hakken', which translates as 'Receiver in heels'.
Maria also practices family law and specialises in divorce cases with international aspects for both Dutch nationals living abroad and English speaking expatriates in the Netherlands. She also advises company directors and business owners in divorce cases involving business capital and on maintenance/ alimony obligations in such cases. Maria has developed the English language website dutchdivorcelawyer.nl as a resource for foreign nationals seeking information on divorce in The Netherlands. She regularly blogs on Dutch Divorce Lawyer regarding divorce and custody issues.
In her spare time, Maria likes to travel and ski. Maria is also a keen photographer. She took the pictures of historical Dordrecht and vibrant Rotterdam, which feature on our website.
